The Philippines and the AI Boom

Country:

Author:

Work used to be limited by geography, but digital technology has changed much of that. Today, employers, employees, clients, and customers can all work and transact while living in different parts of the country and the world.

Journalist Karol Ilagan partnered with PumaPodcast, Commoner, and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism to examine the impacts of the adoption of artificial intelligence systems in our daily lives and how these intersect with systems of disadvantage and discrimination in the Philippines.

Her investigation delves into ride-hailing apps, the risks of unregulated algorithms, and the pivotal role Filipinos play in the AI supply chain. Ilagan explores what an AI-driven future would look like in the Philippines and the steps that can be taken to make that future more equitable.
