At a time when India is facing unbearable heat, this project dives deep into the lives of women who work as cooks on boat cruises in the Sundarbans, which happens to be among the most vulnerable regions in the world. At the intersection of climate crisis, labor, gender, and health, this story captures how women in the region are pushed towards precarity due to loss of livelihood options, concerted push for tourism by the state, and a lack of targeted programs which would look after their needs. Poor wages and work conditions are the norm in this region. But these women have little or no choice, as this story documents.
