In the hilly areas of Indian-administered Kashmir, women are living harsher winters that experts have attributed to the impact of climate change in the Himalayas. In addition to domestic work, women carry water in buckets on their heads by walking five to six kilometers between their homes and the nearest stream. The paths are rough and covered with ice, and the houses are situated uphill. As the weather dips to below freezing, waterpipes get blocked, contributing to severe water scarcity. Women and their daughters are also charged with gathering wood for heat and fuel for their homes amid similarly risky conditions. This project covers how women in the area are adapting their work to climate challenges.
