Mark Hoffman

GRANTEE

Mark Hoffman has been on staff at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel since 1992. He was hired as a picture editor before becoming deputy photo editor when the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel merged.

Needing a break from being in management, he returned to what he loved doing and resumed being a full-time photographer.

Before coming to Milwaukee, he was a photo desk supervisor and picture editor at the New York headquarters of The Associated Press. He has been a photojournalist at the Bridgeport Post & Telegram (now the Connecticut Post), the La Crosse (Wisconsin) Tribune, along with internships at Newsday and the Detroit News.

One of his most recent major projects was Dairyland in Distress, a look at the perils facing Wisconsin’s signature industry. He was the lead photojournalist for the companion PBS Frontline story.

He has been the recipient of several awards and has been awarded three grants from the Pulitzer Center.
