War Crimes, Psychology, and How a Ukrainian City Copes

Country:

Authors:

In this project, Pulitzer Center grantees Mihir Melwani, Jeremy Ethan, and Alicia Chen explore the road to recovery for survivors of war crimes fleeing Russian-occupied areas, as well as physically and psychologically wounded soldiers returning from the battlefield to Lviv, the largest city in Western Ukraine.

Their coverage will address the consequences of increased pressure on the Ukrainian health care system, and draw on interviews with soldiers, civilians, doctors, officials, and volunteers. They will look at the rapidly evolving role of medical services, as well as potential fixes to manage the growing crisis. Stories will be published in the Chinese-language organization Initium Media, VICE, and the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
