Since ancestral times, the indigenous peoples and nationalities of the Amazon have used the alliance as a political figure to ensure the essential governance to face adversities and conflicts that may arise in their territories and have used dreaming to foresee and build a common reality. Consistent with this vision, numerous nationalities and indigenous peoples of Ecuador and Peru, together with civil society organisations, created an Alliance that seeks to permanently protect more than 35 million hectares, where ca. 600,000 people live, of more than 32 nationalities in an unprecedented action of indigenous governance in the Amazon basin. Their territories are outraged by pollution, illegal trafficking of wild animals, land-grabbing, deforestation, and the harmful consequences of various oil and mining extractive activities.
The Alliance understands that there are no borders to confront the aggressions: they are all children of the same Amazon ecosystem. Through text and innovative visual storytelling, the project will show why governance matters and amplify the voice of three leaders who had that vision: Wrays Perez, Wampis indigenous leader (Peru), Domingo Peas, Achuar indigenous leader (Ecuador), and a young female leader, Olivia Bisa (Peru), who symbolises a new dream of a different future.
Starting in Ecuador, a river-boat journey downstream until we reach Peru, where will meet Wrays and Olivia. With them we will check some hot spots and will map and report how indigenous governance is effective in defending their territories through different organisational processes and territorial monitoring transparency.
