Karol Ilagan, a director at the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, is investigating what is driving the destruction of the Philippines' remaining rainforests. During her fellowship, she will use digital cartography and pursue several sets of records documenting legal and illegal economic activities in the Philippines. Her goal is to unveil the political and economic powers encroaching on protected land, and how these are affecting the lives of communities in various islands of the archipelago.
