Official figures show that one out of three women in the EU has suffered physical or sexual violence. Domestic violence—one of those forms of violence—is a more common problem in this region of the world than is generally realized, and migrant women are highly vulnerable to it because of their dual status: migrant and woman.

The invisibility of this vulnerable group—there are no government statistics—means that there is little public knowledge of the problem. It is the very networks that migrant women have built that serve as support for the victims.

Hell Away From Home makes this problem visible. With stories directly told by the victims, the project seeks to raise awareness of the abuse, not only in society, but among victims.
