Michaela Vatcheva is a Turkish-Bulgarian-American documentary filmmaker and student at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. As a researcher for the Investigative Reporting Program, a UC Berkeley nonprofit newsroom and investigative organization, she has been reporting on aging undocumented populations in California. She is passionate about lifting up stories about forced assimilation, forced migration, gender equity, and ocean health. An interpreter at heart, Michaela speaks several languages and has lived in five countries. She loves human-powered sports and practices surfing, cycling, hiking, and rock-climbing.
