Jessica Hatcher

Jessica is a freelancer feature-writer from the UK. For the last three years, she has written primarily about people and places in East Africa. She works regularly in Kenya, Eastern Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania and Somalia, and writes for magazines including Newsweek Europe, TIME, The New Statesman, and the Guardian and Telegraph Weekend magazines. In 2012, she was a One World Media Award nominee for her reporting on so-called "failed states" in sub-Saharan Africa. When she's not on a deadline, she's working on a satirical novel based on her experience of cycling 5,000 miles across Africa for charity in 2008. Jessica holds an MA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford.
