Children and Youth

Over 40% of the world’s population is under the age of 24. Children and youth can be uniquely vulnerable to global challenges, especially when they live at the intersection of marginalized identities. Meanwhile, young people who speak out and call for change in their communities often struggle to find the platform they deserve.

Pulitzer Center journalists listen to young people's voices and stories, examining the next generation of challenges and opportunities. They expose the impact of pollutants on children’s development and the actors responsible. They document the experiences of children living in war zones, from child soldiers to young peacemakers. They explore barriers to education, and how people work to make it accessible. And they share the stories of youth leading movements for a better world, from demanding climate action to breaking stigmas around mental health.
