Pulitzer Center Special Projects Coordinator Peter Sawyer is returning to Davidson College, his alma mater, for this year's Davidson Media Conference, Global Exchange and Local Change. He will share with Davidson students, faculty and community members photos and films from the collaborative reporting project the Pulitzer Center launched last year. This initiative matched two international journalists with four local journalists to produce a series of reports on issues of water and sanitation in West Africa. Their reporting will be published and broadcast in West African as well as international media outlets. In addition, Sawyer will discuss what the collaborative project reveals about water issues and a region too often defined by outside observers.
This half-day conference, sponsored by Bank of America and the Dean Rusk International Studies Program, is a student-led initiative focusing on the key challenges and opportunities facing global media today. Through breakout sessions and a poster fair, students, faculty and community members will learn about the innovative use of new media technologies to fuel global and local change.
