Pulitzer Center journalists Lam Vo and Karol Ilagan will share their knowledge on artificial intelligence, its uses, and how journalists report on it during a multi-day visit with students and faculty at Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q).

Joining them will be Joanna Kao, who leads the Pulitzer Center’s AI Accountability Network as the senior editor, information and artificial intelligence. Both Vo and Ilagan have been AI Accountability Network Fellows.

While on campus, Vo, Ilagan, and Kao will conduct a two-day workshop for students, laying a groundwork for understanding AI, considering ethical issues, and determining how machine learning might be used in reporting.

On October 28, Ilagan will also deliver a talk titled “The Cost of Convenience: Investigating Algorithms in On-Demand Apps” to share insights from her reporting team's data-driven investigation. The presentation will also discuss how an algorithm designed to solve a problem simply doesn't cut it—and what that means for AI accountability.

The visit is organized as part of the Pulitzer Center's Campus Consortium partnership with NU-Q and its Journalism and Strategic Communication Program.
