The Department of Global Health at The George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health will host Pulitzer Center grantee and science journalist Abdullahi Tsanni for a Research and Practice Seminar. On Thursday, April, 24, 2025, 12-1pm, Tsanni will virtually present on Decolonizing Research in Africa, a series for Science magazine about gene sequencing research.

Tsanni and fellow grantee Jon Cohen reported on Christian Happi and his African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), which has become a leading gene sequencing center in Africa and has helped track dangerous viruses in Nigeria and neighboring countries. It also is now a major force in building a stronger community of African researchers.

Tsanni is a science journalist specializing in narrative features. He has written about scientists and issues broadly related to infectious diseases, global health, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and the scientific enterprise. His stories have been published in Nature, STAT News, the British Medical Journal, and Popular Science, among other outlets.
