October 8, 2023, 7:20pm: A dam fails on the flanks of Mont Mbankolo in Yaoundé. The result: 34 dead, dozens of houses destroyed and inestimable material losses. This tragedy, the result of anarchic urbanization and negligent infrastructure management, is a tragic reminder that urban forests are not just green spaces, but barriers against natural disasters.
