Victoria's Foil

Authors:

When 22-year-old Victoria Isaacson discovered she had a degenerative disease, she turned her love of fencing to an all out effort to become a Paralympic fencer. Now that a worldwide pandemic threatens her opportunity to compete, Victoria is once again coming up with a new plan to shape a future much different from the one she planned.

The film follows Isaacson as she trains day in and day out to achieve her dreams while working a full-time job at a horse ranch to sustain the increasing burden of debt that comes with Olympic aspirations. All of this comes to a crashing halt when the coronavirus causes the cancellation of her final wheelchair fencing qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Isaacson struggles with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a degenerative disease that puts physical barriers between the life she wants to live and the reality of her situation.

Her body is slowly giving into the disease, and while she can walk for short periods at the moment, she is increasingly dependent on her wheelchair. As she fights for her desire to live an independent life, her parents worry that they'll have to care for her for the rest of her life.

Victoria's Foil is a universal story about coming to grips with the reality of living a future much different from the one that had been imagined.
