Solutions to an Ongoing Predation Story

During the months of confinement due to COVID-19, the rise in deforestation in the district of Las Piedras, Madre de Dios has been devastating. In the midst of an increasingly acute conflict between environmentalists and illegal loggers, this coverage seeks to give greater resonance to the initiatives of the local forest guardians devoted to the defense of the Amazon rainforest. In addition to the threats caused by illegal activities—which have proliferated during the mobilization restrictions—there is evidence of forest loss that shows that "sustainable" timber extraction is also depredating forest degradation.
