The Rusumo Falls Project Impacts the Environment in Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania

Authors:

This project aims to show the impact of hydroelectric dam construction on deforestation, animals, people, water resources, and arable land in partner countries such as Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania. It aims to sensitize those responsible for the project to ensure the safeguarding of forests in these countries and identify solutions so that the reforestation in these areas meets social and biodiversity needs.

The loss of forest reserves, cultivable areas, and pastures due to hydroelectric dam construction will affect the lives of people and animals, including monkeys and gorillas, who will lack refuge and food. Water shortage will attack these areas because there is no water reservoir provided in the plans, causing epidemics of diseases due to the lack of drinking water.
