Planned Deforestation in Indonesia

Country:

Author:

The Indonesian government claims that the rate of deforestation in Indonesia has fallen by 75 percent during 2019-2020. But the facts on the ground show that deforestation has continued, and has been going on for a long time.

Oil palm plantations are the most reported on because they cause millions of hectares of deforestation. But often overlooked are the large swaths of mangrove forests that are being deforested by shrimp farming projects and paper mills.

Erwan Hermawan will uncover what is behind government programs that cause deforestation and highlight collusion between government officials and the businessmen behind the program.
