Oceans and Fisheries Accountability

Authors:

Much has been written about illegal fishing and the impact the practice has on species such as squid and tuna as well, as the impact on the millions of people around the globe who depend on the oceans for their livelihoods and nutrition. Most of that attention has been focused on China’s distant water fishing fleet, the world’s largest, and its questionable labor and allegations of fishing in the waters of other nations.

Less attention has been paid to instances of American and European fishing companies operating largely out of the public eye, and their attempts to influence officials in African and Asian counties to gain access to valuable fishing rights.
