A short documentary about three women who chose to be childfree in Israel—a society where this act is considered almost anti-national, undermining the existing order in which motherhood, fertility, and family is a national value.

In M/other, I set out to explore one of the most difficult decisions of my life, together with my two friends who also chose the childfree path. Although we are at peace with our choice, there is one person to whom we do feel we should explain ourselves: our mothers. Now, the three of us are going to sit for a conversation with them, yet each with the mother of her friend. This layered dialogue—between mothers, daughters, and generations—represents the complexity of this charged universal topic, at a time when women’s decisions about their own bodies aren’t for granted.
