How Bangladesh’s TikToker Girls are Lured by Dangerous Trafficking Gang

Country:

Author:

The recent expose on the transnational human trafficking gang, operating via social media app TikTok, has shocked Bangladesh, the South Asian country of 165 million people, when a video clip of a 22-year-old Bangladeshi girl went viral on social media, in which she could be seen tortured and sexually assaulted in the Indian city of Bengaluru. To be published in The Guardian, Asia Democracy Chronicles and DW.

Young girls’ trafficking through the TikTok app platform has never been probed with due diligence by country’s law enforcement, while this organized crime gang has trafficked over 500 girls, between the ages 18-22 in the last five years, using the TikTok platform. The reason for challenges with investigations is manifold.
