The status quo of Pakistan’s domestic workers or “maids”—numbering nearly 9 million, according to one estimate—exemplifies modern-day slavery. The parallel holds true due to both the sheer intensity and wide normalization of their dehumanization. This project aims to unveil the economic, social, and legal disenfranchisement of this marginalized segment, ironically at the hands of the "enlightened" middle- and upper class, which often raise their voices against exploitation anywhere but at home.
