Rachel Southmayd

Rachel Southmayd is a senior journalism student at Elon University in North Carolina but is originally from southern Delaware. She has held senior reporting and editor positions at the student newspaper, The Pendulum, and internships at The Coastal Point, 60 Minutes and the Cape Cod Times. She's also freelanced for Delaware Beach Life magazine.

Additionally, Rachel has worked for the Imagining the Internet Center, both at the annual national Internet Society conference in Washington, D.C., and at the society's 20th anniversary conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

She spent the spring of 2012 in Israel, studying at the University of Haifa and traveling throughout the region. It was on a trip to the West Bank that she rediscovered her love of telling the stories of people whose voices might otherwise go unheard.
