2011 REPORTING FELLOW AND GRANTEE
Julia Rendleman is a photojournalist and journalism professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Her photo work is often about history, community, human health or environment.
She is a Reporting Fellow alum (2011) and three-time grantee of the Pulitzer Center for stories including a video story about the effects global economics have on Jamaican farmers and a photo essay about Bhutanese refugees living across Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in Nepal.
She is also the recipient of a grant from the Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists, investigating the implications of drug use and drug policy on American women. Her wide-range of interests stems from her background as a daily newspaper journalist.
Rendleman often works for state-wide and national media outlets as a freelancer. She also works as the primary American photographer for the Helsingin Sanomat, Finland's largest newspaper.
