Gerald Flynn

2022 RAINFOREST INVESTIGATIONS FELLOW (CAMBODIA)

Gerald Flynn is a British journalist whose investigations have appeared in Mongabay, Al Jazeera 101 East, New Naratif, and a range of Southeast Asian outlets.

His work has uncovered how a cabal of ruling business and military elites abused a government land titling scheme to buy up formerly protected areas on Cambodia’s coast. He has also investigated the cross-border health and environmental consequences of medical waste mismanagement in Cambodia and Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the transnational networks that fuel illegal electric fishing on the Mekong River.

He has been based in Southeast Asia since 2017, focusing on long-form investigations into a wide array of social and environmental issues in Cambodia.
