Dado Galdieri

INTERNATIONAL RJF GRANTEE

Dado Galdieri has been a photojournalist for more than 20 years, reporting on social and environmental issues in his home country and elsewhere in South America. He holds a bachelor's in communications at ESPM/SP and studied social sciences with a major in anthropology at USP, but interrupted it due to intensive traveling as a photographer.

Galdieri has visited and reported from nearly the entire Amazonian region, reporting for many outlets. As his artistic approach, he tries to cast light on the conflicts inherent to human development, and their consequences for the climate as well as to natural resource use and depletion. He has lived in Indigenous countries Bolivia, Peru, and Mexico for a total of 12 years and has covered the Indigenous rise to power and identity struggles among many ethnic groups.

In Brazil, he travels frequently to Indigenous areas to understand those that hold knowledge and ways of life that have preserved the forest for millennia. In urban areas, he covers problems related to resource depletion, both social or environmental.

His pictures and cross-media dispatches have appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, New Scientist, National Geographic magazine, Die Zeit, among others. He collaborates frequently with The New York Times, Dagens Nyheter, and The Wall Street Journal.
