Amber Lin

Amber Lin is a Taiwanese journalist and photographer specializing in cross-strait relations and regional politics. She has worked for a number of Chinese-language publications, including Taiwan's CommonWealth magazine, where she was a senior reporter, and Initium and iSunAffairs, where she was the Hong Kong correspondent. Switching into journalism mid-career after stints in business and politics, Lin has contributed to numerous Chinese-language media outlets, including The Reporter (Taiwan), The News Lens (Taiwan), Malaysiakini (Malaysia), City Magazine (Hong Kong), and Blog weekly (China).
 
Her coverage has spanned diverse social and geopolitical events in the region, focusing on China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. In Southeast Asia, she has explored the themes of democratization and China’s growing reach into such countries as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar. She covered the power transition of Myanmar in 2015 and of Malaysia in 2018. 
 
Lin's reporting has been widely recognized. Her accolades include a Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award for environmental reporting, a Human Rights Press Award from the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club and Amnesty International in 2013, and Taiwan’s Excellent Journalism Award for international reporting in 2016. 

In 2019, she was awarded a Pulitzer Center Persephone Miel Fellowship for her project The Silent War.
