The growing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life has been accompanied by media narratives that oscillate between exaggerated enthusiasm and speculative alarmism. By simplifying the complexity of these technologies, these narratives often emphasize their potential benefits while leaving issues such as impacts on work, algorithmic bias, inequality, governance, and accountability underexplored. Drawing on the key findings of the Pulitzer Center’s "From Hype to Reality: Critical Perspectives on AI" report, this workshop offers a participatory space to analyze, deconstruct, and reconstruct narratives about AI. Through group discussions, interdisciplinary reflection, and analysis of real cases based on Pulitzer Center-supported reporting, participants will identify gaps, question dominant narratives, and reflect on the social and political impacts of these technologies. The session aims to strengthen media literacy and foster a more critical, informed, and diverse understanding of AI, while encouraging engagement, collaboration, and action.
