Neenma Ebeledike Screens 'Allensworth Rising: A Fight for Water' at Glendale Community College

Pulitzer Center grantee Neenma Ebeledike will visit Glendale Community College on October 23, 2025. There, she will speak in classes and meet with students. Additionally, she will screen her Pulitzer Center-supported film Allensworth Rising: A Fight for Water.

The screening will take place from 12:30-1:30pm PST in Kreider Hall (SR 138). It is free and open to the public.

Allensworth Rising: A Fight for Water is a 21-minute documentary that follows Sherry Hunter, a lifelong resident and community leader, in her tireless effort to secure safe, clean water for the historic town of Allensworth, California. Founded in 1908 by Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth, a formerly enslaved man turned visionary, the city was created as a self-governed utopia for Black families, a place where African Americans could thrive, free from systemic oppression. Over a century later, Allensworth’s residents still fight for that original vision in the face of an arsenic water crisis that threatens their health, dignity, and future.

Ebeledike is a Nigerian multimedia journalist passionate about amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Currently a California Local News Fellow working with The Sacramento Observer, Ebeledike focuses on storytelling that highlights social justice issues, environmental challenges, and cultural resilience. Her work has earned her recognition, including the Ida B. Wells Investigative Reporting Fellowship. She is an alumna of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
