Religion and faith have been both a source of conflict throughout the ages and a force advancing ideals of tolerance and justice. The Pulitzer Center supports reporting on religion and faith with nuance and context. Our grantees explore the intersection of religion with climate change, global health, conflict and peacebuilding, gender rights, fundamentalism, governance, and human rights more broadly.
From conflicts in the Middle East, across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and within the United States, we seek to advance a deeper understanding of how religion and faith are at times appropriated by leaders to incite conflict—and how our beliefs can also connect us to humanity and offer common ground for some of our greatest challenges.
