Pulitzer Center Eyewitness Journalism grantee Tara Pixley will visit Glendale Community College on September 10, 2024. There, she will speak in classes, meet with students, and deliver a presentation on her Pulitzer Center-supported project Immersed in Oil.

For the project, Pixley documented neighborhoods most-affected by Los Angeles’ urban oil infrastructure’s health and environmental impacts. She visualized the everyday impacts of Southern California fossil fuel production, emphasizing the experiences of nearby BIPOC communities. Pixley’s photography was published with original poetry by Vickie Vértiz in High Country News.

Pixley is a queer, Jamaican-American photojournalist and assistant professor of journalism at Temple University. Her photography reimagines race, gender, and LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities through a liberation lens. She is the executive director at Authority Collective, an organization dedicated to establishing equity in visual media. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Nieman Reports, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and ProPublica, among others.

Pixley's public presentation will be at 12:30-1:30pm
Glendale Community College (CA)
