In 2010, The George Washington University became our first Campus Consortium partner in Washington, DC via its School of Media and Public Affairs. SMPA is a dynamic interdisciplinary program where media, public affairs and politics intersect. Faculty are accomplished scholars and award-winning journalists whose research, creative work and teaching focus on political communication, journalism in the digital age and the rapidly changing global media landscape.
SMPA's mission is to explore how ideas and information are communicated and how the media influence policy and politics in a democracy. Its students are challenged to think deeply, creatively and globally, exploring both the practice and the impact of the media. SMPA is located in the heart of the nation's capital -- just blocks from the White House and State Department -- and is connected with several media-related centers and projects on campus. They include the Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication, Center for Innovative Media and Planet Forward.
Planet Forward leverages the power of integrated media platforms and user-generated content to create a dynamic public square where citizens engage with experts, decision makers, business leaders, scientists, and each other on the issues of energy, climate and sustainability. Its Energy Blog is part of National Geographic's Great Energy Challenge, an initiative exploring the breadth and depth of our current energy situation.
