Coming to Nari Jibon is a victory for 18-year-old Shadia Islam, who won over her father who dominates the family and saw little use in his daughter’s wish to learn how to use Microsoft Office and speak English.
With little chance to find a job in her field, anthropoly: Tasnuva Swarena, 22, hopes the computer class will help her find a government or bank job later. For her, job and marriage can go together.
Helping out at Nari Jibon: 65-year old Ruma Begum has been with the project since its beginning.
As Shompa shares her enthusiasm about the tailoring class, thirteen-year old Rozina concentrates on stitching her own dress. As she is deaf, it is hard to communicate with her.
“Pink is my favorite color.” Shompa Akthar, 20, tailors a dress to save money and to learn the trade so she can open a family business.
Nari Jibon Development Foundation is located in the South of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka in Malibagh Chowdhurypara.
Nari Jibon used to be spread out on three floors, now all class rooms and the office share a space on the third floor.
