In this animation, Agência Pública shows how the record fires in the Amazon in 2020 related to the novel coronavirus pandemic, confusing patients and health professionals, worsening the condition of those who were sick or recovering, and jeopardizing the respiratory health of residents of the nine states in the Brazilian Legal Amazon.
A series of reports reveals that there were almost 28 thousand cases of people with severe respiratory syndrome during the most critical period of the Amazon Forest fires and that the year 2020 saw a new record for fires in its biome, a figure which had already increased in the first year of Jair Bolsonaro's presidency.
