Pekalongan, IDN Times - Electricity is an absolute necessity for humans. However, not all of them are able to enjoy it. One of those who feel it is the people of Sokokembang Hamlet, Kayupuring Village, Petungkriyono District, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java.

They have been able to enjoy an adequate supply of electricity in the last two years, since the operation of the Kayupuring Microhydro Power Plant (PLTMH) at the end of 2018.

PLTMH is the fruit of environmental service benefits (ecosystem services) of Petungkriyono forest. Its usefulness fosters a sense of community concern in conservation efforts in the forest, which is the only tropical rainforest left on the island of Java. This is a portrait of the use of forests as energy to illuminate the local community.
