This project covers the long legal saga of three Somalis accused in journalist Michael Scott Moore's 2012 kidnapping. Two accused pirates faced a jury trial in New York; one pled guilty. One of those who went to trial became the target of a luring operation to bring him to the United States.
Moore wrestled with doubt, rage, and forgiveness beyond the verdicts in court. In this project, he argues that forgiveness is the precise opposite of whatever we mean by “Stockholm syndrome,” and he dismantles the popular idea that “Stockholm syndrome,” which isn't a listed disorder, has any lasting psychological reality.
