Cement company Bamburi Ltd, a subsidiary of the Swiss multinational Lafarge-Holcim, employs G4S guards to secure land the company has claimed in Kenya. But a group of local human rights organizations have started to document alleged attacks on villagers, including cases of threats, beatings, sexual assaults, and mauling by guard dogs.
The community lives in a climate of fear: Whenever locals walk near the disputed land claimed by the cement company, they risk being violently attacked. In addition, there is no accountability for complaints of brutal human rights violations allegedly committed by G4S guards in collusion with the police.
