How Nigeria State Airports Impact Rainforest, Savanna Zones, and Contribute to Climate Change

Country:

Author:

Over the past decade, various state governments in Nigeria have invested in the development of physical infrastructure. One of the most favored projects is cargo airports. Of the 13 established cargo airports, eight are said to be inactive. However, more are under construction. Some are located in close proximity to protected areas.

But as the investment in airports grows more aggressive, the more nature is eroded, exposing Nigeria to the effects of climate change. With little adherence to tested building codes, and with poor resilience mechanisms at these airports, the projects and potential beneficiaries face imminent danger.

This series traces the disjointed intersection of infrastructure and climate catastrophe.
