Bhopal Gas Survivors in the Face of COVID-19

Country:

Author:

On 3rd December 1984, Bhopal was devastated by a leak of poison gas (methylisocyanate) from a factory owned jointly by Union Carbide and the Indian Government, which claimed approximately 20,000 lives. To this day this affects thousands of lives, from survivors to their disabled children and to their grandchildren. Those children, and the Chingari clinic, were the main focus of this reporter's previous reporting project.

This time the focus will be on the adult survivors, a high-risk cohort for susceptibility to COVID-19. 60 percent of these adults have already been suffering from respiratory illnesses for the past 35 years. How has their illness or death, caused by COVID-19, affect their families and any children?
