Simon Marks

GRANTEE

Simon Marks is a freelance journalist and photographer based in East Africa writing for The New York Times, Bloomberg, and Politico. He has reported from Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ghana, Mali, and Mauritania. He believes strongly in reporting deeply about issues of human suffering in order to shed light on human rights abuses and hold people in a position of power to account. As a National Geographic Explorer he also strongly believes in the power of reporting about the fragility of our planet and ecosystems. Before moving to Africa he was based in Europe for four years and in Asia for six where he worked for The New York Times, Politico Europe, The Guardian, Newsweek, and The Cambodia Daily.
