Shirin Bhandari

GRANTEE

Shirin Bhandari is an independent writer, photographer, and documentary filmmaker based in Manila, Philippines. Her work has been featured in the award-winning Roads and Kingdoms and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, both of which center on politics, food, and travel journalism.

Her articles and photographs have also been featured in the Women's Media Center, Slate, CNN, and VICE. Bhandari is a Logan Nonfiction fellow for the Carey Institute for Global Good and is a member of the nonprofit group Women Photograph.

She has worked on documentaries for International Media Support, UNICEF, European Humanitarian Aid, Action Against Hunger, Plan International, Save the Children, and CARE, among others.

Her stories have touched on such topics as conflict, displacement, poverty and malnutrition, climate change, HIV, and LGBT/gender-based issues.

Bhandari's first feature-length film, People of the Lake, was named a finalist of the IF/Then Story Development Lab of the Tribeca Film Institute NYC, and it won a production grant from the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
