Palce Amalo was born in Rote, the southernmost island in Indonesia. He is a journalist and photographer with nearly 23 years of experience. Amalo holds a degree in social and political science from the University of Nusa Cendana, and lives in Kupang, the capital city of East Nusa Tenggara Province.

He has been a correspondent of Media Indonesia daily newspaper since 2004. Before joining Media Indonesia, he worked for forum for disaster preparedness and response in Kupang and has written for Panji Masyarakat magazine and Trust magazine.

He is a member of the Alliance of Independent Journalists of Kupang City and the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SIEJ). Since 2011, he has won eight writing competitions, received eight fellowships, including the Pulitzer Center Rainforest Fellowship, and won five photo contests.
