Neil Shea

Neil Shea's work appears in National Geographic, the Virginia Quarterly Review, and The American Scholar, among other publications. Over nearly 20 years he has covered conflict, cultural change, and environmental upheaval in many places around the world. Recently he's focused on writing about the transformation of the Arctic.

Neil is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, and his recent podcast, Unfinished: Deep South, was nominated for a Peabody Award. In 2022 he was the John D. And Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation resident at Yaddo. He is currently writing his first book, Frostlines: Dispatches from the New Arctic, forthcoming from Ecco (HarperCollins) in 2025.
