Mariana Lenharo

Mariana Lenharo is a life sciences reporter with Nature's news team in New York City. She has covered a wide range of topics, including astrophysics, neuroscience, and climate change, with a particular focus on public health, epidemics, AI in medicine, and research ethics.
Her freelance work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Scientific American, Undark, and BBC News Brasil, among other media outlets. Previously, she was a staff writer for Brazilian outlets G1, Folha de S.Paulo, and O Estado de S. Paulo.
Lenharo was a finalist for the National Association of Science Writers' Science in Society Journalism Award for her coverage of the complex relationship between scientists and families of children with congenital Zika syndrome in Brazil.
She holds a master’s degree in science journalism from Columbia University.
