Jon Cohen is a senior correspondent at Science, which he started writing for in 1990, and has published widely in other magazines and newspapers. He also has published four nonfiction books on scientific topics. His articles have appeared in the New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, the New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian, Technology Review, Outside, Slate, Wired, Surfer, Surfer’s Journal and many other publications. Cohen specializes in biomedicine, and long has focused on HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases, immunology, vaccines, and global health. He also has reported extensively on genetics, primate research, evolution, bioterrorism, research funding, ethics, reproductive biology, credit battles, and the media itself. Cohen coordinated and appeared in two PBS NewsHour series about HIV/AIDS--both supported by the Pulitzer Center--in several countries. One of the series won a national Emmy award. Cohen has one several other high-profile journalism awards, and his work has appeared in "best of" anthologies.
