Elke Scholiers

Elke Scholiers is an independent photojournalist and documentary filmmaker. Her home is in New Delhi.
She covers conflict, politics and the economy, climate change, and social injustice across the West and South Asia.
Scholiers works for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Getty images, The Guardian, Bloomberg, Esquire, and Deutsche Welle, among others.
In 2025, Scholiers was awarded first place for Story of the Year in the APAC Getty Images Editorial Awards. Her work was exhibited at the International Center of Photography (ICP) Museum in New York.
Scholiers studied visual journalism at ICP and Chinese at the National University of Taiwan. She majored in graphic design at the University of Fine Arts in Brussels.
Before turning to journalism, she worked as a graphic designer in China and ran a design studio.
