Davide Mancini

2024 OCEAN REPORTING FELLOW (EUROPE)

Davide Mancini is a freelance journalist specializing in environmental issues, with a particular focus on Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. He has coordinated several cross-border investigations on topics such as wildfires, plastic and chemical pollution of water ecosystems, and illegal fishing. 

He combines video, photography, and infographics in his work, which has been featured in national and international media outlets in English, Italian, and Spanish. He regularly contributes to the newsletter Lapilli, which covers environmental stories from the Mediterranean region. 

Mancini holds a journalism master’s degree (war and conflict) from Swansea University and a master's degree ((journalism within globalization) from Aarhus University.

Before turning his focus to environmental journalism, he worked in Brussels for human rights NGOs, advocating within EU institutions. 

In 2014, he co-founded a web-based platform for newsrooms centered on user-generated content, for which he was awarded a Knight/VICE Innovation Fellowship at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York.
