David Hecht

David Hecht has reported from Africa for more than 20 years and in 1994, co-authored a book on contemporary Africa titled "Invisible Governance". He has contributed to such publications as Fortune, The Economist, Newsweek, The New Republic and the New York Times, as well as BBC, National Public Radio, American Public Media and BBC television and the Public Broadcast Service.

For several years he was a reporter and editor for the United Nations humanitarian news service, IRIN, based first in Nairobi covering East and Central Africa then in Dakar, covering West and Central Africa. He earlier worked for various sections of the UN in New York and was spokesperson and chief of public affairs for the UN-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone.
