Chris Burrell

Chris Burrell is an investigative reporter, covering criminal justice, the environment, housing, immigration, and other topics at the GBH News Center for Investigative Reporting.
His radio series about a man’s struggle to survive after spending 38 years wrongfully imprisoned earned numerous awards, including a Sigma Delta Chi Award for public service from the Society of Professional Journalists, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and a Gabriel Award for narrative storytelling from the Catholic Media Association.
His stories have aired on National Public Radio and have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Boston Globe. Before coming to GBH in 2016, he worked for The Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Massachusetts; WBUR; and the Vineyard Gazette, which covers Martha's Vineyard.
He has a master’s degree in education from Goddard College and taught elementary school on Martha’s Vineyard. He also received an undergraduate degree from Connecticut College.
